The Weaver's Journey
Meet the families behind Cambodia's finest silk — natural dyes, hand looms, and a tradition passed down through generations.
About This Tour
Kampong Thom — and particularly Baray District — is one of Cambodia's most important centres of silk production. This half-day tour takes you directly into the homes of weaving families, where you'll see the full process from natural dyeing to finished fabric. You'll have the chance to try the loom yourself, ask questions freely, and buy directly from the artisans. Every visitor's purchase goes straight to the family. A genuinely meaningful community encounter.
Your Day
Departure from Town
Meet your guide in Kampong Thom town and drive 40 minutes east to Baray District through rice fields and sugar palm groves.
Natural Dyeing Demonstration
Your host family demonstrates the full natural dyeing process — plant preparation, simmering, mordanting, and achieving different colour shades from the same plant source.
Loom Workshop — Try Weaving
Sit at a traditional hand loom and try to weave a simple pattern under the guidance of the family's master weaver. Expect laughter, patience, and a genuine connection.
Visit a Second Weaving Family
Walk to a neighbouring family's workshop to see a different style and pattern tradition. Compare techniques and understand how each family has its own signature motifs.
Shopping & Farewell
Browse and buy directly from both families — scarves, sarongs, and small gifts. Prices are set by the weavers, not inflated for tourists. Drive back to town.
